Gift Guide: Cozy

Anyone who knows me knows that I am always cold. It could be a sunny 70 and at the slightest breeze, I'm ready to put on a sweatshirt. These gifts are not only always-cold-itis sufferer approved, but are generally safe bets for gifts, because who doesn't like cozy things? (Okay, so maybe you're better off sticking to the home decor if the person you're shopping for lives in FL)

As Christmas is only ten days away (yay!), I picked things that you could grab in stores or use as inspiration when doing last minute shopping runs. As for ordering online, you should be able to get your gifts in on time without doing expedited shipping- but double check with each individual retailer's shipping policy, and when in doubt, splurge for the faster shipping so you're not rushed to wrap the present or chance being late getting it to its recipient.

Lounge pants | Throw pillow (also like this one- it just looks so snug-able) | Cashmere sweater (I also like J. Crew's cashmere! Soo soft) | Plaid scarf | Mocassins (I have these and they're amazing. They keep my toes so warm!) | Keurig (coffee gift cards are also a good idea) | Candle (these are the best. Candles. Ever. and come in such pretty containers!) | Throw blanket (also this one; I've seen it in stores and I always want to take it home with me. Can you tell that I maybe like pom poms?) | Pom pom hat (fleece lined!) | Socks (these camp socks with sayings are another cute idea) | Hot chocolate & marshmallows (also LOVE their peppermint bark- great for hostess gifts or stocking stuffers!)

Gift Guide: For The Girls

Specifically, a gift guide for those girls that you have as a friend or family member who you immediately thought of upon seeing those emojis. Hopefully this will help give you some inspiration to get them something that will make them go all *heart eyes emoji*.

*every two bottles fund a clinical trial for one woman with breast cancer, so not only is the bottle awesome but it's for a great cause! I recently stumbled upon the winery who makes it, One Hope, and thought it was great that every product they sell gives back to a charity.

Splurge vs. Save: Faux Fur Vest

Fur vests are here to stay for another winter season! I love the look, but was hoping to find an alternative to the popular Topshop vests. VoilĂ , Target does it again.

Brown faux fur vest: Splurge | Save
Another option if you're more petite/slim is this kids vest for $24.99- I have it in an XL!

Black faux fur vest: Splurge | Save

Do you have a fur vest, or is it more of a trend you admire from afar?

Fall Style Inspiration

Hopefully by now you've gotten your fill of apple picking and chose that perfect pumpkin, but there are still plenty of fall activities to be had. Whether you're carving that pumpkin, baking an apple pie, grabbing a latte with a friend (although I'd recommend the Toasted Graham Latte over a PSL), here's some fall style inspiration for ya.

Another fall tradition is football, and while I don't pretend to be a football guru (hockey is more my speed- go B's!), I still enjoy watching it and how it brings people together. I styled both of these outfits with watching football in mind since I've found myself at a few football gatherings lately, and the Patriots play tonight. So, if you get roped into watching your team get beaten by the Pats... I mean, watching America's favorite sport, here's some outfit inspiration for you- or for any upcoming fall day!

Right outfit: Sweater | Jeans | Booties | Knot Bracelet | Cuff | Glasses

Left outfit: Dress | Scarf | Boots | Glasses

If you're wondering why there are glasses included in these outfits: as someone who wasn't blessed with 20/20 vision, I struggled for a long time embracing glasses as part of my "look." But over the years I've come to realize that eyewear doesn't just have to be for function, and can be an extension of one's personal style. That's why I was so excited when Warby Parker reached out to see how I would incorporate pairs from their newest collection into my fall style as part of their #FallSyllabus campaign.

Warby is a Boston-based company that I've always admired for both their commitment to offering on-trend eyewear at affordable prices and to giving back. For every pair of glasses sold, a pair is distributed to someone in need. One of my favorite things about Warby is that they offer a free home try-on, so you can swap and compare different frames as many times as you want in front of the mirror until you've decided on a pair you like (or is that just me?). I'm leaning toward trying out the Simone since I'm due for new glasses- think I can pull them off? :)

Apple Picking

Corbin and I had beautiful weather for apple picking this past weekend! We went to Lull Farm in Hollis, NH for the second year in a row- highly recommend if you haven't gotten in your apple or pumpkin picking yet!

We went to this same farm last year to pick apples, but it was nowhere near like the crop they had this year! There were so many and they were so large that they had started to drop off the branches.

Caught red-handed taking an apple snap (get it, 'cause the apple's red? Okay. I'll stop now).

The pumpkins at this place are huge!! Last year we got a monster, so we picked a more manageable size and two small decorative ones to carve for this Halloween.

Dress: Old Navy (only $17 right now! Also love the solid version- I ordered it in the burgundy color too) | Scarf: aerie (similar) | Boots: Tory Burch | Bracelet: Ralph Lauren (similar)

Of course, after picking them, we made an apple pie. I'm not world's greatest baker or cook, but I found a super easy recipe that I tweaked with some things I learned from making one last year, and it turned out great! Let me know if anyone would like me to post it :)

Splurge vs. Save: Distressed Denim

I have always wanted to do a splurge vs. save post, and I took Boston Belle out of its mini-hiatus to do my first one because I thought these were too good not to share! I have been hunting for a good pair of distressed jeans for awhile now, and was struggling to find a pair that wasn't overly destroyed, but wasn't just two knee slits either, and most importantly, affordable. Since buying my horse, Enzo, my non-equestrian shopping has been limited. As much as I loved some of the distressed denim that I saw on bloggers, I couldn't justify spending $150+ on one pair of jeans (and I could just hear my grandmother now: "you paid how much to have holes put in your pants??"). So I was thrilled to finally find not only a medium-wash pair, but a black pair as well... on sale, for $34!

Rocksbox Review

You may have seen Rocksbox on Instagram or heard about it, but if not, you definitely need to because it is the best. Thing. Ever. For someone like me who loves to switch up my look with statement jewelry, Rocksbox is perfect because you get an ever-rotating collection to try out, wear, and either return and swap out for 3 new pieces, or choose a favorite (or two. Or all three) to keep.

Boothbay 4th of July

I ended up wearing my back-up dress for the 4th of July in Maine, because it was too chilly to wear the Lilly Red Right Return Marlowe dress I had hoped to (which sadly got returned yesterday since I couldn't justify keeping it when it's so similar to You Gotta Regatta). Even the maxi wasn't warm enough and I ended up layering a sweater, but oh-so-bravely took it off for some outfit shots as the sun set... can you spot the goosebumps?

National Wear Your Lilly Day

I've accepted that although I love blogging, I have to prioritize my job, my family, my relationship, friends, and my horse over it. I've apologized for this before, but instead, from now on if I get a post up, I get a post up, and if I don't, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. As much as I wish I could devote more time to taking photos, creating images, and writing posts, my current obligations and time constraints don't allow me to do that. So while I could say I purposefully saved this outfit to post for National Wear Your Lilly day, it was just a happy coincidence. And I'm okay with that. I hope any readers I have are too! :)

These photos are from my May 2-10 trip to Florida, during which I stopped by the amazingly beautiful Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, FL for dinner and exploring. If you haven't been, put this on your bucket list. Seriously. It's that incredible. It was like a mix of old European aristocracy with contemporary luxury, and I felt like a princess walking around.

So here's to living every hour like it's happy hour, believing that anything is possible with sunshine and a little pink, and bringing some summer to whatever moment you're in- and not worrying about not getting to something because you've been embracing those mantras and living your life. Happy National Wear Your Lilly Day!!

So, my posting schedule got a bit derailed, but for a positive reason this time... I bought a horse!! His name is Enzo, and preparing for his arrival and getting him settled in has been the focus of my energy for the past two weeks. Now that things have slowed down a little, I finally have some time to write posts, so without further ado, here is the second of several posts to come from my Florida trip!

Lilly Spring '15 Collection

I had my second post-op checkup in the city yesterday (and got the great news that everything is on track and I can resume horseback riding 1 week earlier than originally estimated!!) and headed to Newbury Street afterwards. Of course, I had to make a stop at my favorite Boston store, In The Pink! A bunch of people have asked me questions on the fit of certain items and opinions on Lilly's current line, so here is a mini-review of the spring collection!

Spring Uniform

Denim jacket: J. Crew (splurge on this year's version - 30% off with code SALETHERAPY / save on similar) | Striped tee: J. Crew (similar) | Necklace: NameJewelrySpot | Skirt: J. Crew (similar) | Bracelet: Vanessa Mooney via Rocksbox | Sneakers: Converse/my sister's closet (thanks Kelly!)

Spring has finally sprung in New England! (Well, kind of. It briefly flurried the other day in a town near me. Ugh). A denim jacket is pretty much my spring uniform and my go-to for throwing on over whatever outfit I want to wear but can't just yet because of sub-desirable temperature. I also love them for dressing something down.

Also, I'm planning on doing a full post reviewing Rocksbox, but here's a quick lowdown since I couldn't resist using this adorable cuff for today's outfit! If you haven't heard of Rocksbox, they send  you a handpicked selection of 3 designer jewelry pieces that you can wear as long as you like, then you swap for a new set! They have jewelry from Loren Hope, Kendra Scott, House of Harlow... basically, it's expanding your jewelry collection without having to spend oodles. Use the code laurenxdrewxoxo to try it for a month free! It's been so much fun getting new sets in the mail :)

Prom 2015

Although I get a lot of messages every year asking about suggestions for prom dresses, this year in particular I've done a lot of digging online because my younger sister is going to junior prom (she's going to be wearing this dress!).

I can't stress enough how much I wish Rent The Runway had existed when I was in high school and looking for a prom dress. Not only do they carry gorgeous designer gowns (I had a super hard time narrowing my picks from there down to only 4!), but it eliminates buying a dress that you'll only wear once. And yes, you probably will only wear it once. Like many people, my mother and I were convinced that either my sister would wear one of my dresses, or I'd shorten them and use as a cocktail dress... aaand neither happened.

Here are some picks both from RTR and dresses to buy, and ideas on how to style them!

Look 1: Carlos Miele dress ($70 rental / $995 retail), Kate Spade earrings, Ivanka Trump pumps

Look 2: Shoshanna dress ($70 rental / $495 retail), Kate Spade earrings, Vince Camuto peeptoes

Look 3: Nicole Miller dress ($100 rental / $395 retail), BaubleBar earrings, Steve Madden heels

Look 4: Badgley Mischka dress ($85 rental / $725 retail), Vince Camuto cuff, Jessica Simpson heels
*note: only the dresses are to rent and the accessories are to buy- although, Rent The Runway does have jewelry and handbag rentals!

If you're going to prom this year, do you have your dress already? Or if you're like me and past your prom days, do you think you would still choose the dress(es) you wore, or would you wear something different?

Lilly Pulitzer for Target Lookbook

So I'm a little late to the party on this... but I have a pretty good excuse with being knocked out by surgery, right? A little bright spot in my recovery was exploring the Lilly Pulitzer for Target lookbook! Here are a few of my picks that I'll be keeping an eye out for come April 19.

I love how they designed some dresses to look more like the classic, older style of Lilly shift that I love. And that giraffe bottle opener? C'mon. It's too cute. What's your favorite thing(s) from the lookbook?

Olive & Navy

I've started to adopt a guerilla tactic when it comes to taking outfit photos. Have a tiny bit of time and it's still kind of light out? Just took a shower, no makeup and hair is sopping wet (I can't blowdry my curls, they turn into a poof. Many hairdressers have tried to tame my hair with a diffuser. They usually admit defeat)? Commence game plan: take photos. Crop out head. Hope no one minds.

Shirt: J. Crew Factory | Jeans: J. Crew | Vest: Old Navy (similar) | Booties: White Mountain via Marshall's | Bracelet: Target | Necklace: Name Jewelry Spot | Much-needed-caffeine: Dunkin.

Weathering The Storm

These photos have been sitting in my laptop for two weeks now, but between surgery consults and appointments, work, and taking a horse on trial, this post got pushed to the back burner. One positive to my upcoming surgery is that during my recovery I hope to queue a bunch of blog posts because it will be my job to just sit and do minimal activity. At least, that's the plan- fingers crossed I'll be up for it!

Here's my token, "I promise I have a head, it's just that my hair was a lost cause and shooting with a tripod makes it difficult to get a semi-decent picture of me especially since I'm not photogenic to begin with, ooh pockets" photo.

Shirt: My sister's closet/Brandy Melville | Vest: Light In The Box (c/o) | Necklace: Purple Peridot (similar) | Jeans: J. Crew | Heels: Old Navy (similar)

ps. the snow drifts in the background were almost up to my chest! #BOSnow
